What is Carob?
Carob is a dog friendly alternative to chocolate, you should not give your pets chocolate- (you should eat it yourself!.) We never use chocolate in our treats. The stuff that looks like chocolate is carob, a doggie safe alternative to chocolate. Carob comes from the fruit of an evergreen tree native to the Mediterranean region. The tree has large, long bean-like pods are picked and dried then ground into a fine powder that looks very similar to cocoa. Carob contains none of the dangerous ingredients found in the cocoa bean such as allergy-producing antibodies or the caffeine stimulant theobromine, which can be fatal to some dogs. Carob contains as much vitamin B1 as asparagus or strawberries, the same amount of niacin as lima beans, lentils or peas, and more vitamin A than aubergine, asparagus and beets. It's also high in vitamin B2, calcium, magnesium and iron
